Xi’an Jiaotong University

Xi’an Jiaotong University is one of the oldest universities of China and is directly administered by the Ministry of Education of China. The University formerly started as Nanyang College in 1896 in Shanghai. Later in the year 1921 it was renamed Jiaotong University. According to the State Council the main part of Jiaotong University was relocated in Xi’an in 1956. This main relocated part of the university was renamed in 1959 as Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Presently, Xi’an Jiaotong University has 10 departments of study which includes medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, science, and engineering, 27 schools, education and art, 19 affiliated teaching hospitals, and 9 university colleges for undergraduates. The University has a staff of 5,982 members including full time teachers of which 6 are Nationally Distinguished Teachers, 35 are academicians of the Chinese Academy, 112 scholars of National Thousand Talents, 40 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished young scholars, 29 scholars who won the support as Innovation Team leaders, 23 National experts with outstanding contributions, 511 experts who have made outstanding contributions to the nation and receive the State Council Special Allowance.
